Fundraising - Every Time you Search
Goodsearch.com, a Yahoo!-powered site started in spring 2006, allows organizations to fundraise through online searches.
A non-profit group that I am a member of recently joined the list of charities participating in GoodSearch.com. As I read the email they sent out announcing it, I thought that many certification boards and associations might also be interested in this opportunity.
What exactly is GoodSearch? It is an Internet search engine (powered by Yahoo!) that donates money to a user’s favorite charity or cause every time they do an Internet search. According to the site, 50% of GoodSearch’s advertising revenue is shared with the charities listed on its site. Additionally, according to their FAQs, each Web search may generate $0.01 for the designated organization.
While one penny does not seem like a lot of money, it does add up when you consider how many searches are conducted each day. GoodSearch estimates that for an organization with 1,000 supporters averaging two Internet searches per day the yearly revenue is $7,300. The more your members, certificants, and/or supporters use GoodSearch the more revenue you could potentially generate.
U.S. nonprofits are eligible to participate and there are draft templates, emails, logos and links available to help you promote GoodSearch to your members. Visit GoodSearch to learn more or to register your organization.
