Volunteer Roles
One of our readers recently asked if we would discuss the aspects of certification programs that can best be done by volunteers. We have seen programs that are primary staff-driven, programs that are completely volunteer run, and everything in between. As with many questions about certification programs, the answer to what tasks are best suited for volunteers is probably "it depends." It depends on the goals and resources of the program in addition to many other factors. We'd love to hear your experiences on what tasks are best performed by volunteers and what roles are best completed by staff members.

Volunteers can provide subject matter expertise for the exam development and perhaps the grading depending on the structure. They can also help to develop the domains, perform or assist with job task analysis, and serve as a sounding board for the credentialing process.
